For once, Mariner was on the transporter pad early for an away mission. It helped that she'd actually read the briefing before getting to the transporter room, and she knew it wasn't going to be a cave mission. Instead, there were ruins for her and T'Lynn to survey. Actual ruins from a potentially unknown culture. Really, the only thing missing was Tendi. Which, she reflected as the transporter energised, was a pretty major thing to be missing. She really hoped that D'Erika was letting her science between the pirating.
"Lieutenant Mariner, there appears to have been a malfunction with the transporter."
Oh, man. Transporter and malfunction were two words that never went well together. Mariner dug through her duffel until she found her tricorder, then relaxed at her reflection in the screen. "Oh, it's fine. I must have passed through a molecular reversion field on the way down. It totally happened to Admiral Picard once, Riker showed me the pictures. Did you know at one point he actually had hair?"
"Lieutenant Mariner-"
"Don't worry, T'Lynn," she waved her off. "We'll get out scans done, they'll futz around with the transport buffer when we beam back up, and everything will be back to normal."
"Lieutenant I am not worried about your sudden youthfulness." That was downright snappy for a Vulcan. T'Lynn pointed behind her. "That is what I'm currently concerned about."
Mariner looked over her shoulder just in time for the spatial anomaly to hit her in the face.
[Establishy!]
